Drive-ins are no longer the swanky event that they used to be. As the sun goes down, however, they acquire a neon-soaked glamour straight out of Hollywood’s golden age and the dust seems to fade from our vision. The Shipka Drive-in hasn’t been touched in years; the playground still has ‘the Rocket’, the Coke signs remain rustier than ever and the menu still boasts popcorn and pop refills for a quarter. All of this creates an electrifying atmosphere in which there are few better places to watch a movie. The night is black with next to no light pollution and if the movie isn’t any good, the view of the stars is unbeatable. We will bring lawn chairs, blankets, snacks and insect repellant, just in case.
