St Marys is one of the many delightful small towns just a stone’s throw away from Stratford. We will begin with a visit to St Marys swimming quarry (Canada’s largest outdoor freshwater swimming pool) which is a slice of heaven during the warm summer months. Should you wish, slip on your bathing suit and take a dip in the quarry, Christopher Plummer’s favourite swimming hole while performing at the Festival. We’ll make sure there’s time to stroll through the hilly downtown area and check out some of St Marys historical buildings with a local historian. The buildings were all built in the late 1800s or into the early 1900s: the spired municipal Town Hall, the Opera House which at one time was the focal point of social life in St Marys, the Public Library, and a few of the many churches.
